John Adams on Our Shared Responsibility

That is to say: Future generations, you'll never

understand how much we sacrificed to protect

your freedom! I really hope you use it wisely. If

you don't, I'll regret in Heaven all the effort I put

into preserving it.

Let's not only appreciate the freedom we have but

actively work to preserve and enhance it for those

who come after us. As it is written: 'Let us not

become weary in doing good, for at the proper

time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
