  • John the Baptist

Names and their significance Names and their significance John the Baptist J ohn was more than a Baptist as we are accustomed to his identity today. As for more details concerning him; His family relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ, such would be today's terminology, cousins, this does not validate him as the greatest prophet ever born, simply because his mother Elizabeth and Mary shared a family ties. Nevertheless, his greatness lies in the reason for his being and to whom that orchestrated it all. He was sent forth from God, meaning he represented God as an ambassador to perform a certain task with a message from God. To understand the greatness of a messenger, one have to know to whom the messenger represent and what cause is the message. In this case, the messenger is John the Baptist , representing God to proclaim the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. John - Hebrew, meaning the Lord graciously gave The picture of John the Baptist is the clasp between two dispensations; meaning, a bridge between the time frame of The Law, and the time of Grace. Both periods ordained by God. Under the Law, men saw their lack of Holiness. Therefore, a stopgap measure was set in place by God, the Sacrificial System. Whereas the period of Grace, which is now, differ from the Law. In that no longer is Righteousness temporarily obtain by the Law, but Righteousness is imputed by faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9) Between the period of the Law and the period of Grace, lie the silent years. For about 400 years there are no records of God speaking to His people. During this time, the Earth saw a drastic transformation through military conquest. The rise and fall of nations. Oppositions on the international level, to national level as well as conflicts, struggle between families. Without God, the people lose hold of morality. God’s conscience replaced with superstitious beliefs. Hope of freedom among God’s people was replaced with an animosity toward their oppressor; from this time frame rose the Roman Empire . The silence was at last replaced with the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight. The voice of John was as a light piercing through darkness. For 400 years the mind of the people was hardened, and their conscience was blinded. The work of John was to make the people ready for the Messiah, The Lord Jesus Christ. His message was that of repentance . To repent is the change of mind, to turn, with the idea of a change in one's attitude toward sin and God. He who repents must turn around, or change direction. The direction of most of the nation at that time was geared toward political power. This was in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar . The influence of the Roman Empire was felt throughout the known world. Even for the people of God, politics were their focus. The spiritual leaders who once led the people and served as the mediator between God and His people, these were the religious leaders who look to Rome for their empowerment for the control of their people. Religious leaders were generally appointed, rather than anointed to serve. Consequently, those who had the most wealth, were those who ruled. The rich got richer and the poor were forgotten. Even for those who retain the awareness of God, their commonality was their animosity toward Rome. So great was their bitterness for Rome; their focus of true fellowship with God was replaced with anticipation for the overthrown of Rome. Regardless of our situation, our focus must always be on the Lord and not the problem, less we become that which we seek to destroy. Such was the world stage for the message of John. His message of repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand, was in essence saying; look away from your vain political aspiration. Look away from your bitterness for Rome. Look away from your self-righteousness. Look away from the kingdom of men. The kingdom of God is near , but the heart that has enmity, is a heart that is not at peace with God. Where there is no peace, there is no fellowship with God. Therefore, turn away from your sins, and look to God. Unlike many of us, we spent most of our adult lives, changing careers, while contemplating our lives. John, had one reason for living and that was his message of preparation, his message was his life. For those who came to see and hear him, the scene was like none ever. With energy and passion, he spoke. The wilderness was his pulpit , his altar call was the river of Jordan , baptizing those who came, while confessing their sins . Though he shook the nation, but his message was for the individuals within. Grace is freely given, and Grace must be individually received. ( Romans 10:13. Revelation 22-17 ) He spoke with passion, but beneath the yelling was a sound structural doctrine . He called out the sinners and questioned the motive of the hypocrites He said to the multitude that came forth to be baptized by him, O generation of , who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? As vipers, they appear very beautiful outwardly, but filled with poison True repentance must bring forth the right conduct in the individual Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance? ( Matthew 3:8 ) Righteousness is not based on heredity, it is God who calls the individual through faith . …think not to say within yourselves, we have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. ( Matthew 3:9 ) Being a Christian is not the receiving of a plaque, to set up and forget. Repentance is not enough. The life that has been changed must increase and bring forth fruit or else it is of no use in the kingdom . … now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore, every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ( Matthew 3:10 ) As a preacher, what I give you (Water Baptism) is an outward ordinance, a preparation for the inward works by the Holy Spirit . I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He (Jesus Christ) that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire ( Matthew 3:11 ) The judgment of God is carried out by the Lord, He will separate the good from the bad, the useful from the useless . Whose , and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. ( Matthew 3:12 ) , is an illustration of an agricultural method, with a tool also known as winnowing-shovel, for separating grain from chaff. The grain is kept, but the chaff is burned. (Which are you?) Do not cheat for your gain Great were the sermons of the Baptist, but the greater of his sermon is summarized in these words: Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. This was the introduction of the Lord Jesus to Israel and ultimately the world. The end of the Law and the beginning of the dispensation of Grace. ( Romans 10:4 ) John the Baptist spoke bold and unwavering, an exuberant display. Yet, within, he was a humble soul. He shouted when need be, but he was quiet to listen and take questions from the crowd to further teach them. A message inspired by God, will convict the heart of the hearer and stir up curiosity for more … the people asked him, saying, what shall we do then? He taught them the nature of being a good believer, toward one another, self-denial, but not asceticism. He was the example of what he preached. The Scriptures described John as one with raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. The image of John we perceive today should be a primary example for the believer and the preacher of the Word of God. As the ministry of Jesus widens, the ministry of John wanes. The crowds that once follow John, now follow Jesus. Whatsoever we do, let us do it for the Lord, not to bring glory to ourselves. In the words of John, he said, He (Christ) must increase, but I must decrease. This ought to be the primary example for the believer and the preacher of the Word of God. As we grow in the knowledge of the Lord and point man to God. Let them see more of God and less of us. Sadly so, today's preachers for the most part are not willing to make Jesus the head, but rather use Him as a platform to exalt themselves. Let us not forget the words of the Lord; For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. ( Luke 14:11 ) John the Baptist, was the equivalent of today’s Trailblazer . He was born for one reason, to prepare the way of our Lord. Even in his last hours before his martyrdom, his allegiance was to his calling. He sent his disciples to Jesus, having them ask; Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Like the true servant he is, he asked this question that his disciples might receive directly from the mouth of His Master. Jesus speaking of him said, Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist. __________________________________ 🎨PSW·3✒© Abraham John the Baptist Jonah Jacob Esther Samson Mary Herod Esau Joseph Ruth Rehab 12 Disciples The Names of God Christ in the Scriptures

  • Deliverance in trouble

Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake.  Deliverance in trouble Share (Psalms 6:2-10) Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long? Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake. For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks? I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears. Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies. Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping. The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly. EXPOSITION In the time of need, let us not say how great we are, rather how great we could be by His grace, may we plead our sins. Lord, I have sinned, where there is sin, grace is willing to part with the sin. Lord, I am weak, but the Lord is our strength in weakness. When there is no solution to a problem through our understanding, it is beyond what we feel on the surface, or see with the natural eyes. Like bones that are vexed, denoting a violent terror causing a shock and shaking of the inner man, and his bone. Sin and its effects are far beyond the surface of what we feel. Lord, have mercy on me, from without and deep within me. Body, soul and spirit. T hough I have sinned many hours, and days, and years, but shall I endure the time of my transgression before your loving mercy, Lord? My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long? Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake. Let me live that others may see your righteous work in me, the renewal of my being, for the praises of my lips to your glory as a testament among men. For the dead cannot speak, nor can it win souls for your eternal glory. Make me live Lord, in your newness of life that I may live for you. The LORD has heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. Amen

We anticipate the unusual by faith. Knowing that, though we do not see that which we are accustomed to at the time of need, but let us know, it is the Lord who provides that which we need. His provision is not limited to that which is common to us. He can use the unusual to meet our needs. CONTRIVING A man's heart devises his way: but the LORD directs his steps. Introduction When we humble ourselves to the Lord, we see beyond our usual needs, and the common necessity of life. Therefore, we anticipate the unusual by faith . Knowing that though we do not see that which we are accustomed to at the time of need, but let us know, it is the Lord who provides that which we need. His provision is not limited to that which is common to us. If it is His will, He can use the unusual to meet our needs . Nevertheless, when we find ourselves in need, let us not limit the provision of God by anticipating only that which we are accustomed to. God is the Creator of all things, therefore, He can use any means of which we do not know of, to bring forth that which we need, so by faith, let us look to Him, knowing He will meet our needs of which we know not of. Though the needs of humanity vary, but the provision of God is consistent to deliver according to His good will. We will perceive the provision of God according to His will, illustratively speaking. Now, the story In a faraway land of diversity; The inequalities between the people of this land established the longing of the lower class to be a part of the upper class. The young men wandered the heavily-traveled paths of their poor streets in hope to partake in labor chores for the earning of cash. The commute of the railroad between the two cities was to them a transition from deficiency to prosperity; the train rode into the upper class of the City of Wealth , periodically. Money was life, as a path into the City of Wealth. Such was the thought on the mind of those who desire a better life. Occasionally they saw beyond their poverty through the interactions they had with those passing through. Then there was a young man, who had a social interaction with a female dweller from the City of Wealth. She liked him, and he liked her too. However, due to the inequality of their social status, this served as a gulf in keeping them apart. In his mind, he ascertains, if only I can earn the money I need, I can leave for the City of Wealth before the harsh winter blanket the poverty-stricken city, and there I shall reunite with the girl of my dreams, he thought, and promised to see her soon. The flash of thoughts turns into hours, and hours turn into days. The cold days grew into weeks and months. His steps grew in search to earn the cash for his trip, but to no avail. It was the last call for the final train as the streets clear up making way for the flakes of snow, quickly they did accumulate, pasting the ground in white as far as the eyes could see. The young men hurried to help with the luggage of the passengers in hope to earn a favor through the receiving of spare change. He was a part of the charging seekers, but in the corner of his eye was the image of a man lying flat, motionless. He knew he had to do something about this man, but this was his chance of earning cash in hope for a transition to a better life. Helping the man would canceled his chance for earning some cash from the passengers boarding the train. Or He could stop and give a stranger a chance of life. The latter became the decision, though it was the right thing to do, yet it was a hard thing to do. Lifting the stranger who could barely stand, where are you from good sir, I perceive you are not one of us? The man looks upon him with sadness. You must be from the traveler's logging. Hold on, and I will take you there, sir. No longer was the train, his focus, the focus of his self-made plan , was now behind him as both the limping man and the young man walked, holding on to one another. Gradually the man regains strength, in his faint voice, he relates the account of his presence. I grew up here son, but at your age, I left for the City of Wealth, and there I met my wife, 22 years later we are parents to the love of our life, our daughter. Why would you come back here, you have made it? He firmly replied to the young man, son, true blessing is a light given, it must be shown in the dark in order to be a light . Though he listens to the man speak, but the fading of the train departure sound haunted his decision. Yet he held the man in support as they march through the accumulating snow. In the distance was the Traveler's Logging . A place of lodging for the wealthy in transition. In silence, the weight of the man increases, as his responses came to a crawl, the more the young man began to contemplate his decision and the path thereon. As the Traveler's Logging draw nigh, the doors of these fancy buildings were shut close , not knowing where he was going, without a response from the man, he kept on walking. Prospecting without certainty, there appears a light in an open door ahead , partially blinded by the snow mixed wind. The light in the open door became a beacon of hope. Without yielding to the cold blasting wind, he pressed on toward the light. In the doorway was perceptibly the figure of two women. They stepped out into the snow, by helping both the man and the young man the remainder of the way and into the doorway. With his eyelids covered in ice, no longer were his decisions made by sight, but by faith; trusting whoever these women are, they will take care of the man and he will be taken care of as well. Like a flash, all was faded and in reappearance, gone were the icy eyelids. Removed was the burden on his shoulders. Free were his feet from the depth of the sinking snow, and warm they did feel. He was in a home like none other. At his right side was a fireplace, with the softness of a warm blanket over his shoulders. Gazing at the fireplace, his eyes followed the design of the room's décor, in front of him was the biggest chair he has ever seen. Therein, sat the stranger he had helped earlier. With a smile on his face and the return of full mobility in his arms; he held on to a mug, while slightly lifting it as a toast proposed to him. Then, an all familiar voice rang from the distance within the home. Daddy, is he awake? Tracing the voice with his eyes, he beheld the girl of his dream. How can this be he thought? There came another voice of a female, filled with wisdom and love; He is awake honey . She instantly introduces herself as a mother and a wife. I am sure you’ve met my husband, she added with a smile. The man finally spoke, thank you son. You see, our daughter told us about a boy. She spoke well of him, but like you, I know what it is to live in a place of deficiency . If this boy couldn’t afford traveling to our city, we decided as a family to come here and meet him. I couldn’t return to my daughter without him, so I stayed out in the cold, searching, until my body gives in. There you found me, and I am in your debt, son. Little did I know that you are that boy. The four of us will leave after the storm, until then, my wife and I will retire for the night, giving you young folks the time to catch up. Conclusion In our time of need, God shall create that which we need, as He sees fit. If money or material things cannot get us the desires of our heart, God in His wisdom will give us that which we need according to His will, in due time. Thus, it is written: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. • The error of soul sleeping | Awalkingnewman.com

Study materials, Books & Resources. Blogs/Articles with Miscellaneous Writings accommodating Fine Art & Illustrations, Drawings, from A Walking New Man website SOUL SLEEP IS WRONG The reason the likeness of the phrase soul sleep is used in the Scriptures and whenever it is used, it is only dealing with the physical body asleep, after the death of a believer. The sleep has never referred to the soul. The believing Christian’s death is only temporary because the "physical body" is idle, i.e., asleep. However, the soul is alive and well with the Lord. They are absent from this body of life, but they are "present" with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The verse above deals with the Apostle Paul weighing in on his desire to do the will of God here on earth, during his earthly ministry. Nevertheless, he also expressed, being with the Lord wouldn’t be a loss. "Having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better"… to be present with the Lord. One who is present is not asleep. Heaven is not full of sleeping saints. Instead, Heaven is filled with praising saints! Revelation 4:10-11 The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that lives for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created. Even before this account, the Scripture gives another insight into the death of the believer. This account is found in the story of Lazarus the beggar; Luke 16:22-25 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: (another phrase for paradise) the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. Though Abraham has been dead to the physical body for hundredths of years, here we have an account of his well-being in paradise after his death, and his talking and responding to questions. This does not sound like a soul sleeping person, does it? So then, why do so-called teachers of the Bible teach soul sleep? Those who teach such and many other false doctrines have fallen from Grace. Due to the proudness of their hearts, they seek to fill it with something "new" in so doing, they open their lives to false teachings. Or, bluntly as the Scriptures records, demons and teaching of demons. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now, the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron. This we know, those who caused such teachings, will not repent for the proudness of their hearts. As for those who simply misunderstood for the lack of better understanding, it shall be a small effort to revert from the error and a big gain to turn to the truth. Danger lies in the path of those who ascribed to such teachings and follow the source of such teachings. _________________________________ 🎨PSW·3✒© The error of soul sleeping BACK Share

Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Miscellaneous Writings Workplace protection a prayer for the office and more P. S. Wilmot Share A Psalm of David Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them. (Psalms 35:1-5) In Jesus name I pray Amen. ___ Exposition of the prayer One of the innumerable uniqueness and the beauty of the Word of God is, it is alive and well. For the circumstances of the past, the future and the present, it is the answer and the solution, for the weary soul, for the fear that immobilize. It shall be the light in life’s darkness of uncertainty, to those who plead to the Lord. Like David of old, in times of contend, strive, quarrel, may the words of our mouth be our supplication to the Lord. When the anxiety of the heart causes weakness to the body, this we know, we cannot manage the situation in our own ability, but in humbleness, let the weary draws to the Lord. If the cause of the unknown is raised against us, or the oppression of a tribunal, or summit before a judge, through false accusation. Or the wrongdoing of our will, in meekness, God is the advocate to the humble. Therefore, whatever the situation is, may the awareness of the heart acknowledges, the plead of David. The Lord our God, intervened and stood up for David. So then, this we know by faith, the Lord will do it again. He will undertake our cause against those who had risen up against us. Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Like the lyrics of Dawn: . . . now it seems that there's no way out And you're going under God's proven time and time again He'll take care of you CHORUS And He'll do it again He'll do it again If you'll just take a look At where you are now And where you've been Well, hasn't He always come through for you He's the same now as then You may not know how You may not know when But He'll do it again Prayers awalkingnewman.com Writings

I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Miscellaneous Writings Praise I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Share Praises open the portal of the soul to the moving of the Holy Spirit. Wherein the Mighty Spirit of the Lord flows through the feeble natural man. As he sees less of his problem and more of God's love and greatness. Overflowing his being, in growth with oneness with the Lord. Towering over every doubt and unbelief, filling up every emptiness of sorrow with the wisdom of the Lord and His council. Against every oppression, reverting every falsity into truth. A truth that is in the Lord establishes a hopeful foundation in the once troubled soul. Causing the natural man to put on the Spirit man through an ever-ongoing praise to the Lord. Praise in the Greek means hymns , therefore, what is the singing of our lips, discontent? It is as a crack and a leak to a vessel, in which it shall never be filled to overflow, but praise is gratitude to the Lord. Put on the garment of praise , without praise the believer is as a naked individual. Wherewith, their focus is no longer on God. The focus is on the shame of the nakedness, in other words the focus is on self. The cause of depression for many, is the focus on the problem within “self,” the individual has no control over. Yet, when it becomes the focus, the mind is trapped in a puzzle without a solution, causing a physical low state, from the burden, for the lack of answers. Whereas, a hollow from within, drown all feelings to an abyss of darkness. At times, it isn’t always about what we feel, in this case, the feeling of sadness . Instead, it is what we know. If we’ve once experienced any joy, let the mind remember, the Lord is able to restore the joy we once felt. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19 KJV) Speaking to yourselves in psalms How can we speak to ourselves in the Psalms, if we read not? Faith comes by hearing, the hearing of the Word of God, but if we don’t read, we are hindered as the recipient of faith Singing hymns and spiritual songs and making melody in your heart to the Lord. The songs of the world, glory in self with the desire of things lost and the lust of the flesh. The fulfillment of these things will never be enough, but the lust for more. On the contrary, the heart that makes melody to the Lord, the individual connects with the Lord finding rest and refuge, in times of need. He will give to those who mourn, Joy and gladness instead of grief. Where there is the spirit of heaviness, put on the garment of praise. When clouds of doubt hover over me, and the storm of life tosses me to and fro... there is a place, of refuge that I can go. . . He's the shield for every tempest, and He is an anchor that sure and true, in times like these, oh it's so good for me to know. . . God is my refuge (Thank you Lord Jesus) a strong and mighty tower that I can run to, God is my refuge. Without Him tell me what could I do? Once I wandered far from the shelter, just ahead, I could not even see . . . those dark clouds that were heavy and full of rage . The winds will blow hard, and the billows will roll and roll and roll, from the raging sea, but peace comes the moment I call out my JESUS NAME, and I know that God is my refuge, strong mighty tower that I can run to. I know that God is my refuge. (Thank you Lord Jesus) ___________________________________ 🎨PSW·3✒© >> For interaction, check the Blog version here << #VictoriousLiving BACK

Teach me, Lord; to discern right from wrong, a blessing from cursing, being helpful to others, rather than a burden to my fellow men. Surely your blessing is with me. May You open my eyes that I may see your blessings in my life. The praises from my heart, through my lips shall be a continuous flow, for you are eternal. Every breath I breathe is the testament of your awareness in my life. Remember me Lord, may your Holy Spirit guide my life in all truth. You are the Lord of my life, great is your faithfulness, to you I trust all the days of my life. In Jesus name I pray Amen. Scripture Reference It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. At times compassion can be more important than survival. It is important to help others, even if it means sacrificing your own needs. If the heart is selfish to only see it needs, it shall be driven into a place of isolation and discomfort, while forsaking others. Like the two hunters, Divine order will give the individual a chance for redemption. Like many individuals in life, their life is all about vigorously hunting for the next thing of success. BACK The Hunter’s Decision The Chasing Of The Rare Deer By P. S. WILMOT Introduction Once in the wintery north of The Rockies, below its base stretches out a vast plain, now fully covered in the accumulation of snow for such a time. Silence stood the homes, immersive lies the distance between the houses in stillness, of pure white. The covering of white as far as one could perceive, with the sporadic whistle of the wind raging across the frosted-land of powdery white snow. The smoky chimney remains the only sign that life thrives within these homes. Slow was the ascent of smoke from the chimney, but steady it remains in their consistency for the fireplaces within. In times gone by, there were two strangers, one black and one white, who were hunting in a vast area unknown to both individuals. Their hunt for the legend of a rare deer took both men far away from the snow-covered plains and high in the wintery Rocky Mountain peaks of the misty white surrounding. The trace of the footprints in the snow was as the fast fading of one’s conscience. For the barrage of constant wind and snow, invisible became their tracks on their journey, but their need to succeed became the only conscience for an awareness of their surroundings. Therefore, forward their needs steered them into the great unknown. Void was the heavens above them of any trace of a cloud in sight, but the fullness of a blizzarding whiteout and the downpouring of snow. Bare were the trees that did remain, with each brittle branch covered in the weight of snow. Such were their outfits and the hunting rifle in their arms. Although both individuals were in different locations of the great outdoors, their need, and the will to succeed were on par. However, a short journey was now life’s decision. Without the awareness of where they once were, neither their current position was known to them. Both the strangers were stranded in different locations. At which point in time the sighting of the rare deer became a reality. The black stranger took aim at the rare deer before the white stranger could discharge, while he yet looked through the scope of his rifle. Cautiously, he disengaged his view from the scope as the firing sound of the stranger was heard with the follow of an echo throughout the surroundings. The slower the echo dissipated, the more the professional hunter was aware of the projection of the round as he traced the sound in pursuit of the game. Although it was not his shot, he knew he was not alone in the unknown. And the one who took the shot will as well follow the trail and there they will meet. The helpless animal went down in confusion. Now with the silence of the echo, the struggling of the animal led the hunters to its location. Almost simultaneously, both men arrived at the drop, standing in the accumulation of snow above the knees, without acknowledging one another presence the black stranger had his hunting rifle placed once again in a tilted position while wrapping the barrel and the muzzle with a tape. Though the men stood beside one another in the pouring snow looking upon the animal, but they spoke not a word. For professional hunters, the expected action on their part toward the animal was to be swift. Nevertheless, there they stood motionless rooted to their respective positions. At this point in time, they knew not the way back where they began, if they were to return it was to be after the storm. A camp had to be erected where they stood. And before them was the decision for the extinguishing of life for the preservation of theirs, though uncertain. For they were in the midst of nowhere. Likewise, being high on the mountains, vast was now the distance from the nearest frozen stream in the plains. Without saying a word, they both gazed at the helpless wounded animal because of his inaccurate shot. Both men were outdoorsmen, and they knew the importance of surviving at all costs and before them was an animal yet alive. They had to make a decision between survival or compassion. Broken was the silence through the utterance of the white stranger; you missed. A clean shot that passes right through the right thigh. “Do you want to do the honor,” asked the black stranger? The white stranger somewhat hesitated, after a moment of silence he had a different idea. He suggested that they should take care of the deer which wasn’t in danger of dying from the wound of the slug. But if it was to cease to be, it would have been from the excruciating elements wherewith they were all caught up in. The black stranger was skeptical about this idea because he thought that it would be a waste of time and resources, but he agreed anyway. They both worked together hurriedly to build a shelter with a fireplace. The men took turns taking care of the animal, combining their rations enabling them to extend the duration of their daily intake. The helpless animal, extremely large in size, rare in its appearance offers not an aid like a third human would, but having it close in their midst provided ample source of warmth. After several days, the deer started to recover and once again was able to walk. In so doing, their minds were in dire condition, while being helpful in a time of challenge, but knowing this was a very long severe winter. After many days, the two strangers released the deer back into nature and watched as it ran a path. A peculiar path, as if it was a familiar route and off it went charging into the low visibility of the ongoing storm, until all that was left was the intangible memory they shared and likely no one would ever know of their great compassion. For there was no end in sight to the storm and far away they were from anything they were familiar with. Yet, they both felt proud of themselves for choosing compassion over survival. But the reality of that which was ahead was yet to be determined. Through the passing of time, hope became like a substance slowly slipping the mind’s ability to keep holding on. Sitting back-to-back against the position of their postures. They no longer care to see the ravaging effects of the accumulating snow, wherewith they were now stranded. With both their eyes closed, the once strangers were now trusted friends for a decision that could be their last. Hmm, the white stranger let out a breath, why is it rare? From a state of silence, asked and responded the black hunter. You mean the deer; why is it called rare? Well, it is free and likely it will survive the entirety of this storm, and we won’t. Between the two of us, we have over 70 years of experience in hunting, and we let go of a large game so we could survive a winter storm? That is rare my friend. Both the men let out a laugh which lasted not a long time due to the extreme cold and weakness they now felt. Hey, but we could end up being legends in a Sunday school for our noble deeds on these mountains. “Oh yes, replied the white hunter. The deer just need to be around after a few decades to tell the story to the first missionary up these mountains.” Darn, we could have taught it how to read and write! Humorously, added the black hunter. So, do you have a family? Inquires the black hunter. There follows a period of silence. Yet he respected the silence of the white hunter. In response, softly spoke the white hunter. Through the quivering of his voice, he spoke out. If they would ever accept me again, at least with breath in my lungs I would try to be the best I can be. To my little girl, her brother, and my wife. I acted the fool. I couldn’t even stand my own presence, so I stormed out and remembered the tale of the rare deer. So, I thought I would spend the winter with a purpose of hunting this animal, but then I saw it laying there helplessly. I thought within myself. I might never see my family again for my wrongdoing. They have always loved me, but I’m not sure I have done a great job returning the love. So, I thought, maybe, I can do one last good deed, even if it is for an animal, to let it live. After those words, there again lingered another silence, but for this time, silence was the black hunter. Till the white hunter nudged his shoulder into the shoulder of his friend. Perhaps, his silence was a reminder of the similarity of his own burden having heard the account of his friend. Nevertheless, he felt woeful was their current condition. And the lighten up of the vibe would suffice. Therein, with his head hunched over and his eyes closed, he rejoined the conversation humorously. I see you plan on doing one last noble deed to step into the great beyond with a great status, by taking a brother with you through those pearly gates huh? I don’t plan on being a company of yours going down to the other side, groggily the white hunter replied. Thank you, spoke the black hunter. What for, asked the white hunter? This moment here and now, I have lived my life as a loner, but not a weirdo, just my way. So, thank you now for your company. As the black hunter spoke those words, faintly his friend mumbled, I feel nothing, but I hear things. Don’t you give up on me now. Though he attempted to turn in hope to comfort and encourage the white hunter, his friend, but their strength was predicated on leaning against each other as the temporal shelter began to cave in from the snow on top. Both hunters at that point in time heard the sounds of multiple hooves, but without the will to utter that which was sensed. In stillness, they remain as the unknown sound magnified within their conscience of which they had not a control of, yet nearer drew the marching sound of coordinated hooves toward their location. Slowly became their respiration process, yet vividly were their senses, of seeing, but without the physical eyes by perceiving beyond the ears, the heart became a room of discernment. Motionless, they lean on one another. As the snow continues to crash down within the shelter. Then out from the path where the rare deer disappeared, came a booming voice. As the many hooves came to a stop. Good thing they are all together. Great job Blue in bringing us back, for you to repay their compassion toward you. We will set up a camp here and nourish them. The moral of this story is that sometimes compassion can be more important than survival. It is important to help others, even if it means sacrificing your own needs. If the heart is selfish to only see its needs, it shall be driven into a place of isolation and discomfort, while forsaking others. Like the two hunters, Divine order will give the individual a chance for redemption. Like many individuals in life, their life is all about vigorously hunting for the next thing of success. Therein, they are driven further and further away from all that truly matters to them, and through selfishness and greed, the conscience is wiped away like a footprint through a snowstorm. Till that individual is weary and lost, but there will be the opportunity of making things right, which at times will cause a great deal to the individual. However, this is the stage of growth for a change. Such was the decision made by the hunters for the sparing of the life of the rare dear. Yes, the legendary rare deer was right before them. Its blue eyes did glow; they have at last found their success. But What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul? Their decision caused them a great deal. Although the deer could have sustained them temporarily. While hoping to display a trophy of the game for a gain. They could not have survived the duration of the storm without the help brought back by the same rare deer. Up in the unknown of The Rocky Mountains, lived a man virtually unseen by all, but his animals, including the deer with the blue glow eyes. Having been spared, it did return to the man, seeing its wound and the healing thereof, he hitched the remaining of the animals with Blue at the front which led the way back to the hunters, in their time of need. ____________________________________ 🎨PSW·3✒© For Group discussions, check the group page: Pages Speak THE PAGES SPEAK Share
