How Does Biblical Faith Contribute To The Proper Functioning Of The Brain?

The human brain produces over a thousand new neurons per day, in the adult.

  • Neurons are the fundamental units of the brain and nervous system, with responsibility for the functioning of the body and its awareness of the external world.

These neurons are the hippocampal neurons. They are produced with a pending command function wherewith to function.

You as a believer, be not misled by the world that you are an unsolved problem and a broken case as an individual. Every day is a new day the scriptures tell us. With the possibility of being better than yesterday. Because of this, we do not faint, but if indeed our outward man is being decayed, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

2 Corinthians 4:16

Interestingly, these neurons that are produced by the brain are responsible for the emotion, memory, and the autonomic nervous system. Considering these are built awaiting your command:

Your emotion, the way you feel.

Your memory, the way you perceive things.

The autonomic nervous system, the way you physically function.

All of these are determined through your mindset for a new day. (As we will perceive through the study) Let not your awakening to a new day be of doubt and grievance, for therein you have corrupted over a thousand hippocampal neurons within your mind which will affect your emotions, your thoughts, and your ability to function.

In contrast, may your new day be of hope, and aspiration to do that which is right with a heart of gratitude. Knowing within you are a thousand "workers" willing to work for you. Believe and act upon it, for you are wonderfully made, by the Creator, your Father and your Lord.

The way you think as a believer is crucial to how you live as an individual. Know who you are in Christ. You are unique, loved, and special as you are. Think of these with a thankful heart.

But be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and the perfect, will of God.

Romans 12:2

For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (Discipline self-control mind)

2 Timothy 1:7

Every day at your possession are thousands of neurons within you willing to function and contribute to your well-being. Do not always reason based on how you feel through sadness or fear. But act upon what you now know. Within you is miraculous greatness, by the Lord our God, act like it, through faith. Knowing the foundation of your action is based on faith.

Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1

That is to say; to have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot yet see, but we believe.

The idea conveyed in the original Greek text from the verse above reads, faith is the title deed of things hoped for, the proof of things which are not being seen.

A title deed is a legal deed or document constituting evidence of a right, especially to ownership of property.

Imagine a wealthy father giving to his sons and daughters multiple title deeds. At that moment in time, the recipients are officially the legal owners of their respective property. It is of their choosing to do as they please with the property. Build thereon and increase exponentially in the real-estate market. Or choose to farm the land and generate more agricultural produce. The title deeds give them a possession and a clean slate to act upon.

Now, imagine you as the beneficiary of multiple title deeds. Though you do not yet see the properties, but the title deeds are the evidence of that for which you’ve hoped. Such is faith, and illustratively speaking, the title deeds are the thousands of neurons your body which is wondrously made, creates to serve you daily.

Take heed and speak not negativity into your own life.

Be aware and act not based on what you may have experienced in the past that was of a harm toward you.

Be not anxious for that which you do not yet know.

Let not your approach to a new day be of a lackadaisical initiation, but with a mind of gratitude there shall be not a place for negativity. Instead, the awareness of your blessings shall be a signal to the neurons that are responsible for your emotions. Therein, your attitude shall be of anticipation. For this is a new day that the Lord has made, and I will rejoice and be glad in it. Though I see not what is ahead, neither was I aware of my surroundings, while I slept. Nevertheless, I am awake, and God is good. And for this day, He who watches over my helpless body during the sleep hours, He shall likewise take me through this day.

This is the discipline mind spoken of in 2 Timothy 1:7 and the renewal thereof. If your body does not rely on the neurons of the past, but produce thousands new neurons for each day. Now, in you is the ability of a thousand choices to benefit from the renewing of your mind daily.

Finally, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Philippians 4:8

. . . and the God of peace will be with you.
