Psalms 119:1

ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

  • The word blessed used here, it carries the idea of happiness. The individual is truly happy when he or she walk in the law of God. The word “law” used here, is not the act of thou shall not. But rather how must I live that I may understand those things I shall not do? By walking in the law of God, that is to say, teach me Thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear Thy name. Psalms 86:11

When you as an individual understands that "blessed" speaks to a deep, inherent happiness derived from aligning with God’s way, you illuminate the idea that living in accordance with the divine law isn’t merely about following rules; it’s a transformative pursuit of truth and purpose. This concept beautifully dovetails with the heartfelt plea of Psalms 86:11: “Teach me Thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear Thy name.”

In effect, the psalmist isn’t asking for a mechanical adherence to commandments but is seeking a profound union with God, a guidance that transforms the heart and mind. The call in Psalms 86:11 is an invitation to a relationship where the divine law becomes a living, breathing pathway. It’s not about abstaining from sin simply out of obligation; it’s about embracing a way of life that fosters spiritual growth, (Rising above your shortcomings) deep connection, and true happiness.

When one walks in the law of the LORD, it ceases to be a burdensome set of rules and transforms into a guide that enlightens, heals, and refines the soul. Just as the plea “Teach me Thy way” encapsulates a deep longing for transformative learning, this perspective invites us to consider how embracing and internalizing divine wisdom can reshape our lives. It is both a journey of self-discovery and a path toward a deeper relationship with God. As Scripture reminds us, “The LORD changeth not” (Malachi 3:6) this constancy offers a refreshing perspective, rendering these ancient texts remarkably relatable and practical for our everyday walk.
