The presence of a dilemma is the evidence of what was one acceptable, but it’s now in a state of ruin, or it is in an unsuitable condition. Therewith, the state of uncertainty or perplexity is present; the decision to choose is bounded between equally unfavorable options.
For this reason, individuals are divided in their position of choice, regarding the dilemma at hand.
The dilemma in this case of interest is Capital Punishment, wherewith the guilty party of a first-degree murder is put to death as a legal penalty.
As society progresses with time and innovation and collaboration, the overview of its people is that of a civilized generation. No longer are men placed in an arena or a setting to fight to the death; nor battle against the beasts of the wild in an ultimate life and death, for the cause of a public execution through entertainment. Therefore, modern society appraises itself, as civilized, inclusive and not barbaric. Nevertheless, modern society has erected many ways of taking away the life of another than ever before.
The discussion of life for life, or an eye for an eye, it wasn’t the idea of God’s perfect creation. However, due to degradation and sin, this discussion is a reality and a dilemma.
Noah Webster defines a dilemma as; A difficult or doubtful choice; a state of things in which evils or obstacles present themselves on every side, and it is difficult to determine what course to pursue.
For the rejection of God, the hearts of men are vacant to the indwelling of all things contrary to God, by the acceptance of evil; man kills man. The consequence of this is outlined in the first book of the Bible, Genesis 9:6. Which reads, whoever sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made He man.
Or this is also render; Human beings were made like God, so whoever murders one of them will be killed by someone else. So, he who premeditatedly takes the life of another, eventually his life will be taken.
However, with the dispensation of government, the enforcement of a legal verdict is not to be carried out by the individual. Instead, legal enforcement is the business of the government, but for many modern governments, the idea of God is offensive, the God of the Bible. Therefore, they dismiss God from their governing.
Since they refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, He has given them over to corrupted minds, so that they do the things that they should not do. With the long list of unseemly acts comes the disregard for the human life. The antidote to such atrocity has been the guilty party of a first-degree murder is put to death as a legal penalty.
Many will cringe at such idea of Capital Punishment, life for a life. Thus, in all society among the people there is a division. There are those who accept it as a legal justice, while there others who reject such an idea.
It is easy to oppose Capital Punishment, by saying it is immoral, but it is difficult to cope for the family, who cruelly lost a loved one by the hands of a person who shows no regard for the life of the victim before and after the crime. So then, who is right in their rejection or acceptance? This is the dilemma of a twisted society.
President Calvin Coolidge once said, I sometimes wish that people would put a little more emphasis upon the observance of the law than they do upon its enforcement. Indeed, he was right. However, when God is not the center of Society, the moral compass of man is no longer obligated to the righteousness of God. Rather, morality is replaced with immorality, feuds by uncontrollable indulgence without consequences. Thereby, harm is Inflicted on others without remorse.
If men loved God with all His heart and all his soul, shall he harm his fellow man? No, consequently there would be no need for the acceptance of Capital Punishment or the rejection thereof.
In recent months (early 2019) States leadership within the United States, moved toward the abolishment of the Death penalty, or the temporary halts thereof.
By the consent of Public Relations, this will be seen as a milestone of a civilized society. Nevertheless, most of the same leadership who opposed Capital Punishment will agree to terminate the life of an unborn baby in the womb, or after it is born, without giving it its first chance. For its only crime is being conceived into a society where the decision to live or to die is predicated on its own parents.
The same modern society teaches its young that existence is without a purpose, but they are from the descendants of animals. Their young ones and young men grow up and act like animals of which there are supposedly descendants of. Yet, modern society has been baffled as to why would anyone commit atrocities unspeakable.
In Biblical days, God instructed His people to establish cities of refuge. These cities represent Jesus Christ in types, in which we will discuss. They were a place of sanctuary, wherewith those who were guilty of manslaughter would flee. In the city of refuge, the manslayer found safety.
Today, those who are guilty of sin and acknowledge their wrongdoing, in Christ they will find refuge, from the penalty of sin. The guilty party was safe, as long the individual stays within the limits of the city. Today, may we flee from our wrong doing and dwell in the presence of the Lord.
The individual was to stay in the city of refuge until the death of the high priest (The high priest symbolizes the Law) and it demanded the death of the manslayer (the sinner) So, the death of the high priest claimed the liberation of the manslayer (sinner). Today, Christ, our High Priest, His death on the Cross, Satisfied the demand of the Law.
The wages of sin were against us all, but Christ, the Gift to humanity removes the penalty of sin which is death, to all who will find refuge in Him.
Shall man not do good, if he is taught that there is a God of righteousness, and to Him we owe our accountability for our actions, yet He is willing to help?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:16-17
These are the elements of life and living, but for the rejection of God, society is blind, thereby it is faced with its never-ending dilemma.
