A valid question that opens an extensive discussion on the existence of life, and its purpose. When Heaven is used in a question, or a statement with the idea of the transition of life, we automatically perceive from a spiritual standpoint (and rightly so) However, we sadly exclude the most precious bond anyone can experience outside the relationship with God and our fellowmen. The relationship and bond we form with our pets, are the true example of a steadfast love, birth in lowliness.
We removed these animals from their natural environment, to be a part of our family, at times without all the full benefit as a family. Yet they love us like their own, and we love them. They teach our young ones the act of responsibility. The bond we share with them brings out the awareness of compassion in all of us.
The love for our pets goes far beyond the expression for the present, it transcends to the future. Herein arises the question, will we always have our pets with us, like the assurance of seeing our loved ones who went on to be with the Lord?
The assumption is, unlike the human soul and spirit that is destine to eternal glory or eternal damnation; the eternal destination of an animal is not subject to one or the other. Therefore, many assume the only experience we have with our pets, is now.
Since the dawn of man, God in His wisdom chooses the animals as the companion to mankind. We read in the beginning of all books, the Book of Genesis. Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast (animals) of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. Meaning, that is how they all got their names. The lesson within these passages gives us a further insight to our topic.
The animals were presented to Adam, by God.
A form of possession to rule over them, one ought to understand, the animal kingdom we have today, isn’t in its originality of how it was meant to be. They weren’t made to live as a separate kingdom on earth. They were made for mankind, to live along side with us. Hence; we read that God brought them unto Adam. Like a parent would entrust a gift of a high value to his or her child, so it was with God and Adam.
Every good parent who entrusts a gift or a thing of a high value to a child, expects the child to care for the gift. Nevertheless, the parent continues to watch over both the gift and the child. We read in Psalms 36:6, the righteousness of God is like the mountains, His justice is like the depths of the seas. Humans and animals are in His care. This brings an insightful discussion to our topic. Do our pets go to heaven? Though their eternal destination is not subject to heaven or hell. However, has God made or create anything without His knowing of its existence, does its life come to an end and ceases from His awareness?
To this we answered, unequivocally no. Not only is He aware of all life and its existence, His love and care endures forever; Toward mankind who has rebelled against Him, and for the animals who became the victim for the cause of man’s sin. Simple and insignificant the animals might seem to mankind in his fallen-state, but not to God. He continues to watch over them in a rebellious world. An illustration would be that of the Ark, precisely Noah’s ark. Towering approximately 45 ft high, 450 ft long, and 75 ft wide. This was indeed a massive structure. However, the only people on-board the ship were Noah and his family, his wife, their three sons and their wives. Although, for the stability of the ship, its size was crucial, but for the sake of the animals, such monumental vessel was constructed, by the command of God for the importance of these creatures.
As long as man exists in the plan of God, the animals will exist with man. Thousand years earlier, God brought them unto Adam for possession. (Genesis 2:19) Centuries later, God directed them to Noah for protection. (Genesis 6:20)
Years from now in the future, when peace, order and prosperity are restored on earth. When mankind lives in the glory of God, once again, animals will be there, but this time they will be restored to their natural intend by God. No longer will there be carnivorous activities among the animals. The lion shall eat straw like the ox, and the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together. (Isaiah 11:7)
God in his wisdom, knows the love children have toward animals. Therefore, this time, the care of the animals shall be given to the children. This doesn’t imply an adult won’t experience the joy of picking up a bear cub in his or her arms for a warm snuggle. Or the feeding of birds in a field, while lying on a male lion in the cushion of its fur, for a pillow during the cool of the day. Nevertheless, in a world without harm, who is better to lead and teach an animal than a child with its vibrant, eager mind?
There is evidence, the children born during this time will be highly intelligent, than an adult of today; as it was originally intended to be for children that were to be born unto Adam and Eve, hasn’t it been for the Fall.
Animals like the wolf shall live with the lamb. The division of wild animals and domestic animals will be bridged as one. The leopard shall no longer stalk its prey, but it shall lie down with the other young animals like a young goat; and the calf and the young lion and the lamb together. As stated, the beauty of all this is, a little child shall lead them.
The speech ability of certain animals likely would be returned as well, as they learn from children, children of high intelligence. For we know the serpent once had an ability to communicate. (Genesis chapter three) This is not a fable or symbolism, it actually did talk. Even today, we see such evidence in Songbirds and Parrots. They can learn and mimic human speech. Beyond mimicking human speech, was a gray parrot named Alex, it spoke with a vocabulary of some 100 human words. It was reported that Alex the parrot had the intelligence of a five-year-old human, along with the emotional level of a two-year-old. If it wasn’t for the death of the gray parrot, it could have achieved even more.
Now, imagine a world, of longevity in both man and animal; the possibilities will be glorious. As we move toward this age, which is to come; God continues to watch over the animals. Even for some of the smallest of His creation, like a sparrow. Yet, not one sparrow falls to the ground without God’s consent.
Therefore, be not surprised when you arrive in glory, there to see your long-lost pet reunited with you.
Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him. (1 Corinthians 2:9)
