I listen to an audio Bible on my way to work or when I'm driving and one of the verses that stood out to me was Exodus 23:8
"8 And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous."
So I looked it up and found another verse that was related Deuteronomy 16:19
"19 Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous."
I found the Hebrew word for gift and mostly it defined it as bribe but it briefly mentioned it as reward or compensation etc. I guess I'm wondering if its only saying not to accept bribes (obviously that is wrong). Additionally, there's a lot to break down with those two verses; what does thou shalt not respect persons mean?
