Aaron Not Allowed To Mourn?

1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.

2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

3 Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

4 And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.

5 So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said.

6 And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled.

I was talking to my daughter and this story of Aaron came up. I was wondering, why did God tell Aaron not to mourn?

I mean, I told my daughter it was because Aaron's sons disobeyed and had no regard for God's word, command. If, Aaron mourned his children before the people; he could have been placing them above God?

I could be completely wrong but that's what I gathered. 😔

First of all, discussions with your daughter concerning the Word, is honorable, and it is applauded.

Your answer to her was right. Also, as a priest they were set apart for God.

Sometimes, it is not always about how we feel. Instead, it is about what we know. This Moses knew, and he reminded them of Leviticus 21:10-12. Priests were not to mourn for the dead, neither touch them.

As a priest, they served God for the people. Like you said, they ought not to put their feelings above God.

Also, let's not forget the wrong doing of his sons.

Thank you, I didn't mention it for recognition but I really appreciate it.

And thank you for pointing out those verses, I completely forgot them. 😊

I also noticed I didn't include the reference for the story:

Leviticus 10: 1-6

That's a good foundation you and her share together in the scriptures Pink ☺

Oh and I totally didn't remember this story 😊
